Binu Punchakkari, a welder by profession, initiated to pick up waste from Velayani
Lake. He made a boat and a crane for picking up waste from the Velayani Lake, and
an electric bush cutter to eliminate the weeds.
Velayani Lake is a primary source of drinking water. Every morning at 6, Binu sets out
on his boat to save Velayani. The first time he picked up waste from the lake was
when the pandemic hit.
So far, he has cleared over 650 kg (about 1433 lb) of plastic within four months.
“I believe I have cleared nearly 90 percent of the plastic in the lake. If my sole efforts
cleaned 650 kg of plastic, imagine what could have been achieved with some help
and support”, he says.
People like Binu set an example for society to become active toward the
environment.
We Salute the Lead Kindness Hero Binu Punchkkari.
